Gen 14:23 "That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is yours, lest you should say, I have made Abram rich"

God made Abram materially wealthy. Abraham was quick to point out that not he or anyone else did that. It was God alone who made him thus. Where is your wealth coming from?

1 Cor 15:46 says first comes the natural then the spiritual. We start out in the flesh but end up in the spirit, if everything goes right. Deut 8:18 says, "And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth". At first we are alacritous to make money on our own. God wants us to prosper financially (3 John 2). We can't do this in the spirit until we first allow Holy Spirit to clean up our soul motives.

The first time I heard the prosperity message I unconsciously rejoiced at the prospect of getting rich. Looking back it was all about the money for me, not advancing the kingdom. My motives were selfish and I didn't even know it. Re-listening to those taped messages now, those who were preaching it weren't suggesting what I was. I heard what I wanted to hear. Sin is deceitful. It hides behind good intentions and even scriptural promises.

Decide, like Abraham, that it won't be by cunning business acumen or lots of hard work that you will accumulate wealth, nor by frugal living. But only by Holy Spirit Himself that wealth will come to you, by heeding His voice in all the decisions and actions you take. Let God promote us and not we ourselves (Lk 14:8-11).
