Prov 14:27 "The fear of the Lord is a fountain
of life, to depart from the snares of death"
To fear (3374) God means to honor and reverence
Him. When we adopt this attitude toward Him we position ourselves to
receive His life flow. Conversely, when we treat Him with contempt or
indifference, the flow of Life dries up.
The other day I felt an unction to pray. It was
from the Lord. It was a Friday afternoon. I had the whole weekend
ahead of me to pray. I blew it off, thinking I would pray Saturday
and Sunday, which I did. The unction left me. I ended up praying that
weekend without His Presence and grieving the Holy Spirit (1 Thes
5:19; Eph 4:30). God is always with us but there are times when the
anointing comes for specific works of service (Isa 10:27). Isa 55:6
says, "Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is
I asked the Lord why I blew Him off. He said to
me it is the pride of life (1 John 2:16).
In Him we live and move and have our being
(Acts 17:28). I choose not to presume on God's graces, mercies and
anointing. I choose to cherish and covet them. I confessed my sin and
He was faithful to forgive me (1 John 1:9). I'm endeavoring to treat
people in the same way, not to blow them off nonchalantly but to
honor and reverence them (1 Pet 2:17) as I do the Lord (Matt 25:40).
